Has too much time in the sun dried out your (once luscious) locks? Here’s our guide to restoring your mane back to it’s former glory.
Hair masks are great at helping to rebuild your hair’s strength and texture. After applying your mask to towel dried hair, clip it up and wrap your hair in a warm towel. This technique helps open the hair follicle and allow the product to penetrate more. Try: Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask, $56.50.
Top Tip: To reseal the hair cuticle and keep hair looking smoother, rinse your hair treatment with cold water. You can also do this by using the cool shot on your dryer just before you finish and will diminish flyaways – we promise!
It may be obvious, but a regular trim is the simplest way to making your hair look and feel healthy again – especially long hair. Our advice? Consult your hairdresser, who can assess what needs to be chopped – all you have to do is trust them and their judgment of how much!
MELLOW THE YELLOW
So, it’s not just blondes that suffer from brassy locks, brunettes and redheads can too. Anyone that has lightness, highlights or balayage can suffer the effects of the sun by looking too yellow. However, it’s easily fixed with colour balancing products like the Sheer Blonde Tone-Correcting line from John Frieda. Using a special shampoo or conditioner once a week should solve the problem easily.
Try: John Frieda Sheer Blonde Everlasting Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner, $19.90 each.
PREPARE & PROTECT
The sun’s rays are not only harmful to our skin, they damage our hair too! Who knew, right? When out in the hot sun, get in the habit of applying sunscreen over your whole body, and spritzing on a UV blocker for your hair like Matrix Biolage Color Care Therapie Shine Shake Spray, $30.
